Tires for your 525i Touring?

I am in the market of buying new tires, stock for the Touring is 205/65/15. I am thinking of buying a 225/60/15 as I have read it drives better.

Now the mechanic has been telling me that you shouldn't put a 225 and on and on with his talking.

I found the Kumho 225/60/15 tires on TireRack and their price is decent, I have read in some other sites that these are good tires, any ideas from my Touring buddies in here?

I thought I remember the wagons coming with 225/60s standard for the load capacity. That's the size the 535i used anyway so there's no reason not to use them on your wagon. As for a recommendation on the Kumblows, you'll have to take someone else's advice on those. Tire Rack I heartily recommend as supporters of the BMW CCA, and I use Yokohamas almost exclusively for that same reason——and I like them. I'm running the AVID W4S in 235/45x17 and that's a darn nice tire for the money; under $500/set of four, delivered. Oh yeah, and they're made in Virginia, too.

225/60 Is the correct size. A 205/65 is one of sizes suggested for winter tires.
205/60 is just wrong

the Solus KR21. My last set wore evenly and I got 40K plus, I got new ones this spring, no issues with the size on my non touring 1995 525i 5 speed.

correct, tourings should have 225.

I think those are the same kum-ho! I put on the wife's geo prizm... can't comment on handling but they are quiet and do fine in the wet.

Okay, I figured mechanics can't be trusted these days..

Any other brand anyone recommends? Otherwise I am probably gonna stick with this one.

Although I have them in 17 235 45, I run Continentals ContiExtremeContact and they do a marvelous job in the rain. Great price too for the quality.

I used to love the handling of my 225 60 15, and the 17s run pretty much the same, though of course a tad harder ride and a bit of better cornering and a more personal look. The 225s were some cheap unknown brand but did the job until one of them just gave up as the car was parked.

Shopping for the car is just fun.

I like Michelin Exalto A/S. Seem to do well in wet and dry weather and very highly rated by tirerack. However, they cost a bunch more.
