I am about to sell three recycle cats (two 535 and one set of 540) for a set of headlights and 500 bucks. Are these things worth that much? It seems like a good deal but I have no idea of their worth and want to get the best value I can for them.
Anyone here know the real value of E34 cats?

Aluminium is about £1000 per tonne for scrap. Used cats can fetch about £120 each. A local breaker I know wont keep them in the yard overnight as they are a target for druggies. They even get nicked off cars on a garage forecourts:

Yeah, it happened in birmingham here recently, the robbing bastards got into a ford storage compound and systematically removed around 100 cats off stored vehicles over a weekend.

that sounds pretty decent for what someone off the street can get plus the market has hammered in the last month, we just sold $7,000 worth of cats saturday, 3 weeks ago it would of been $11,000 worth, the stainless steel casings have little value compared to the platinum and rhodium inside mainly those two plus a couple other exotic metals are what set the value and they have fallen a good bit on the commodity's market lately
over the next week or so we are going to crush over 120 cars which in my educated estimate should yield a little north of $30k http://members.cox.net/wdixon27/rockin.gif
Yep, rhodium has taken a beating for the last few months. Hopefully the thieves will fall back on stealing rims or something else that causes less damage when they steal it.

The guy who has been buying my scrap has not flinched at a set of TRXs with tires attatched. Are crap tires now desireable too?

nope, usually worth less with a tire unless your guy has some use for them

Now... are we talking about OE wheels? I didn't know it is worth something... I thought it is like aluminum/magnesium.

Do your yards require you to pop the valve seats and guides, etc out of the heads? Or are they paying that good for mixed metal? Around here they're paying ~$0.60/lb for cast aluminum, $0.70/lb for wheels. $0.10/lb for steel and mixed metal. $3.00/lb for #1 copper, $2.80 for #2, and depending on the recycler, up to $1.50 for insulated copper wire.
Actually his story is that he has an agreement with a guy at a tire store who dismounts all his tires free. Tire store gets the used tires, scrap guy gets the wheels. Apparently enough good tires to make this work for both parties. A set of worn out TRXs won't make tire store guy happy.
