Hello all,

I am wondering where could I acquire a BMW tool to drive seals in? This seal is on the gear selector, also known as the radial seal. The location of the seal prevents me from using a regular socket to drive the seal in correctly. I have thought about using some washers instead of the tool to drive the new seal in, but I wanted to see if I could get the correct tool first. The part number that I found for the tool is 24 5 230.

If anyone has done this seal before and has some tips, please feel free to chime in.

Thanks for the links, but I still don't see the tool that I need. Looks like I will be doing the washer method.

They do however have a seal driver for a ZF tranny, but I have a GM tranny, so I am not sure if that will work on mine.

If you have a dealer nearby they may lend the tool.
The parts man or shop foreman might be indemnified with an amount equal to the value of the tool until returned, along with an appropriate tip.

I doubt my dealer will do that, considering it is a bit of ways to get there. I ordered two seals, I will try it with the washer trick, if that doesn't go well I will have to hunt down a tool.

Very clever, I did the same ;) They are really cheap.
I cut a small piece of a steel pipe of same inner and outer diameter as the seal and used that like your ' washer' idea to push it in.

I got the correct washers today. I will attempt this in the upcoming days.

Update: I just installed the new seal. I didn't use electrical tape as I originally intended to do to the fact that the tape would be hard to get out once the seal was in place. The washer trick worked perfectly. Seal went in straight without any issues.
