Manual calls for Dexron II.
Costco has Dexron III.
Any reason not to use Dexron III ?
Dexron III is the correct replacement for Dexron II which is now obsolete. Actually, Dexron III is a Dexron II/synthetic blend and is a superior fluid. For even better protection/performance, you could use a full synthetic ATF such as Amsoil, Redline, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, etc. They can be inter-mixed with your existing Dexron II in any ratio.

Thanks, Gale, that's what I had in mind, but thought I should ask around first.
A case of Chevron Dexron III costs ~$12 at Costco, so I'm gonna use that to flush the tranny in several steps, then replace the filter and replenish with Redline ATF. Also gonna use Redline gear oil in the differential.
Anybody tried synthetic ATF??

As only 1/2 of the transmission fluid can be drained out at a time, it takes several cycles to get most of the old fluid out. Other than removing the tranny, is there any convenient way to accelerate the removal of ALL of the old fluid at once? Or, do I just have to keep draining/flushing until most is gone?
