What kind of bulb do I use for the E34's rear window switches?

The size of the bulb I used is 8mm long and 3.2 mm wide. The specs are 12v and 50mA, the bulb I got was clear, however I painted it amber to match the rest of the interior bulbs.

A regular buld from an auto parts store or an LED?

You can get small clear wheat size bulbs from online electronic stores like the following. They are cheap. Order way more than you need. There are many e34 switches that the bulbs can fail. Once you learn to fix one, others are similar. google this forum and others for the how-to.
