I think you're referring to the interior LEDs found in new 5 series models--the ones that give the center console and doors a subtle glow, right? I added one to my '92 525i. I drilled a hole in the frontmost part of the sunroof, map-light box (right by the top edge of the windshield) and then installed an orange 10mm LED so that it shines down on the gear shifter and console. I wired it to the leads for the sunroof switch bulb. It looks pretty cool if I do say so myself. Heck you might even call it mooooody. I'll try to dig up some pictures.

I know they were never installed from the factory. I'm adding them to my car but I want to know the specs of those LEDs, all I know is that they are clear, illuminate amber/orange with a wide light up area, about 3mm and are real bright. As far as the numbers go, i have no idea what specs thay are.

The mood LEDs are built in the dome lighs of the E38 and above cars. They aren't sold seperately at the dealer.

i retrofitted one in my car.,the dome lights came from an e39. I don't think you could buy it separately from the stealer and yes it's hard to match them if your just trying to buy an ordinary dim orange LED's

Did you ever find any store or website that has them?

i never tried looking in the web only the local electronic shops here. no luck the led's of the dome light are small plus the orange glow is different from the ones that you buy here locally. i suggest just buy the e38 or e39 dome light from the yard.it'll save you time:D

I have this link already bookmarked but I don't want red nor a 5mm LED, it'd be too big. I'll have too keep an eye on the junkyards.
