So I ran into a guy at work that praised K&N and highly recommended it to me. So how many people here are running with K&N filters?

He drove a 5.0 Mustang, just incase anyone wanted to know.

K&N = no power gained and more dirt/oil in the intake tract.

Just say NO.

i beginning to agree...when i cleaned my cone filter and the throttle body there are dirt and oil. I'd go back to oem

I´m using a K&N, but not the open version the insert one.. No gain just a slightly better roar but it works just fine! (so far)

I run a stock replacement K&N air filter... I tried to put a cone in and get it to work but the stock airbox in an e34 is not restrictive...

the 5.0 mustang has a super restrictive air box so the removal of the box gains power

THIS IS NOT THE CASE FOR THE E34 all the cone does it make ur car louder.

K&N filters = say goodbye to your MAF

There's very little point putting non-stock filters on a bimmer other than for the induction roar... (which is v.v.v.nice on the v8 btw) but for the induction roar you can just pop out the noise baffle in the front of the air box.

In something like a ford where the airboxes/filters can be badly designed, I wouldnt be surprised if a cone type filter improves performance.

no matter how funny it may seem and a lot of people don't believe me on this one, but when i tried K&N, my car had worse throttle response than with stock oem filter.

naturally, stock is back on.

Hmm, will have to look at my airbox tomorrow and see about trying that out...

It's fairly obvious how to do I'm guessing?

7-8k miles. depends a lot what's the nature of your driving, smoky downtown or open road....

K&N can be washed and reused.

I'm using a K & N Panel filter, not a cone, haven't had any problems so far, sounds good but haven't noticed any difference in power

I had the K&N filter insert for a while. Didn't notice any difference, so I went back to stock.

Which piece is the noise "baffle" that can be safely removed?

That baffle was referenced for the M60 airbox. Not sure if it's in the other airboxes as well.

I found a removable "horn" on the outlet inside the lid of my airbox. I've no idea if that was the baffle that was mentioned or not. But it's certainly not listed or pictured at all on the parts diagrams.
