Have either of you ever taken an E39 door panel off? Particularly the front doors. It sounds like my window stops are displaced and giving my regulators a hard time, but I have been unable to see a how-to anywhere for removal.

I know something E32, and from this model I am specialized in the V12 engine.
I know a bit about the E34 because there are many parts same/similar to E32.
But I do know little about E39, try here

Let me suggest that if you want definitive E39 information from adult owners who work on their own cars, and without the BS from some other forums, you want to join this group: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/bmwe39/
But you'd better be ready to play nicely with others and obey the rules!

Just did one two weeks ago on an e39 touring. The window glass in the drivers door came out of the two clamps due to the bolts loosening :D (sorry, I don't know the prpoer window lingo).
The removal process was almost exactly the same as the e34. There is a trim screw behind the door handle. Poke around, get creative, think like a german and you'll find another trim screw or two. The only b!tch was the wiring loom for the power windows. Its supposed to come apart to free the panel, but it wasn't budging, so rather than break the thing, I left it together and just hung the panel out of the way with the wiring still connected. This left plenty of room to fiddle with the window. Once trim screw are removed, just grab a corner of the panel and yank hard. Lift and pull out to free it from the door sill.
Its VERY intuitive, so just get in there. Oh, make sure the clippy guy that holds the middle of the door (you'll see it), is alligned correctly when re-installing.
Good luck,
Dave
