Helping a friend purchase winter shoes for his e39 touring. We've found a set of what look like 15" baskets with Nokians for a reasonale price. See
Craigslist link (http://nh.craigslist.org/pts/864153181.html).
We can't get a hold of the seller for a definitive answer, so I thought I'd ask here. Does someone know whether 15 baskets (or whatever these are) were spec'd on the e39? Can one tell whether these are e34 rims (72.5mm hub which won't fit te e39 or e39 rims (74mm hub)?

I agree it's style 29 but based on this:
(it's in german, but easy to work out - takes a while to load, but once it's up it will not reload when you select a model)
http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/
which says it fit's both the E39 and E34:

But the E39 wheels have a different inside hub diameter and require converts to run on an E34 (I've got style 39 from an E39 on my E34 and have had to fit hub rings to convert them). If you want to be sure, get the seller to list all numbers on the wheel - should have a part number there somewhere.

Thanks gentlemen,
The seller was contacted and states they were removed from an e39. I did a bit more probing and found a number of references to 15" (style 29s?) that were stock on the e39.
We'll trust that they're not fibbing and buy em :D
Thanks again,
Dave

Oh, the german link is an odd one (maybe because i don't speken) as it lists a number of "style 5" wheels which don't look like true style 5s. Have a look.

It's definitely E39 wheel with 74.1mm hub size.

If you look at a few different model cars on realoem and look at the wheels that were available on them you'll find that BMW calls basketweaves Style 5.
What we typically call Style 5's they refer to as a Style 5 composite wheel.
So yeah, there's a few different versions of Style 5's. Though the BMW community really only refers to the composite type as Style 5's.
Always a bit interesting to see what people call the different wheels in different areas of the world or different E type groups. You see some people refer to Style 7's as honeycombs, some mistake them for basketweaves, but no one ever says Style 7. My wheels are never referred to as Style 21's. Occasionally they're called M-System II's, but they're mostly just referred to as T-Stars.
