Well its happened. After trying various useful threads my 525 is dead.This is the result of a cup of coffee from the mechanic falling onto the centre console, the fuses not blowing and as a result the wiring harness is burnt out, beyond economic repair. If anybody on forum in UK wants any bits,all M5 suspension, good driveline,panels etc,come and get them, I have to recover BMW costs to tell me the harness is £720 but it will all be cheap or make me an offer for car,if you jump the starter it goes and is legal!
Temp replacement Legacy GTB until I can find an E34 M5!

I find this too hard to believe... a cup of hot coffee is not enough to kill anything in the car aside from window switches. I would get my multimeter and determine what fried... It is most likely to be the battery cable fusible lnks.

A line of melted plastic and a fried rear fuse box is a bit of a clue!

Unbelieveble! What a waste... Hope you are getting money for that damage caused by the mechanic.

I agree with tiger on this. Nothing in the console save for the nuetral switch if autobox to prevent the car from running. One of the few places on these cars I wouldn't mind too much to rewire.
Give up if you like but there is more to it.

tim would go to the junkers, salvage the interior wiring from an e34 on death row, take the interior out and plug the new one in, saving the car.

Actually Tim would have the mechanic do it free since he f'd it up.

TDs engined cars are quite rare in scrapyards in the UK, people tend to spend more money keeping them on the road.

That said Barney, have you not got a spare E34 knocking around that you can just transplant the loom out of? You could do a dash upgrade to full obc while you were at it :D

From what I remember, the engine loom will plug in/unplug from the rest of the car loom quite easily... it shouldnt be too difficult to botch it back into working shape!

i have done complete body harnesses in a couple e34s and it's not too awful, scare up a used one and go for it, take a good look at your harness and check out a few diagrams to see what other models are the same or are close enough, i went with a 92 525 harness when i re strung my 90 535 for a couple updated systems
