m20 Rocker arm

Last sat. attended bmwccp fun run, on the way to the event BOOM! bye bye rocker arm. I know it's pretty much normal in an m20 but stock with automatic gearbox? anyone could shed some light what i should do to prevent this? tnx. sorry to sound stupid:) Sorry for the crappy pics..Used a camera phone.had a little accident with my digicam and now still dripping wet:(

hey... I have had a rocker arm broken.. first piston. admission. which one is yours?

1) either the oil ramp problem.

2) either engine reved too high for too long. I know,,, you have an automatic, but so do I and a BMW specialist managed to break my engine.. I think he drived in 123 mode. since then I give mechanics the middle finger. I do everything myself now.

I think you would better rebuilt your head altogether. less hassle. cheap if you do it yourself. check the belts and water pump and off you go. removing the rocker shaft is a pain in the ass without removing the head. besides the shaft is probably bent. (so was mine)

I got it fixed yesturday:) rocker arm is in the #6 cylinder. They didn't took the head off plus the valve isn't bent :) cost me $55 labor and surplus rocker arm here in manila:D BMW specialist broke your engine? did they pay for it?dang that sux!

good lord you are lucky. 55 dollars? that's bloody cheap. how did they do it? just shifting the rocker shaft? did they remove the sprocket?

here every mechanics tries to screw you. it is sad...

yup they just shifted the r.shaft then slide the r.arm out. adjusted the valves then after cleaned the intake system inc.throttle body. labor is cheap here in manila:D

No kidding labor is very cheap..... what is the rate per hour?

in the stealer around $10-12 per hour. but i never go to the stealer. Outside its cheaper. A friend had his tranny rebuild (535iA) for 25,000 pesos or $470-$500 parts and labor.
