View Full Version : Am I hosed? (Vac hose?)

Trying to do an intake gasket replace, and decided to clean the throttle body. 1995 530i. Had to cut off the small rubber hose (the YELLOW box, not the red box) in the pics. (Yes, I now realize it was stupid to cut it when I could have just got a beer, relaxed, then tried pulling at it some more).

I know it sounds lame but I can' tfind the part number. It is NOT hose 7 in the realOEM pic below (I know cuz I ordered it and it turns out to be the smaller hose in the RED boxes).

The hose I need goes from the throttle body into some long hard-plastic tubing, which snakes around down into a big cylinder with "Lucas" on it (Brake-related?)

Dang. Can someone help me figure out the part number? (The dude at the local BMW parts dept says just buy some generic hose - what's your thoughts?)

Thanks much

I can't believe you cannot substitute it with a generic hose (even fuel grade hoses) from Autozone or Pepboys. I think I did on my 540.

Generic fuel line hose will work for that one, the bend is minimal compared to the one of the left. So how fun is the job so far? Are you going to replace the front and rear plate and gaskets? How about the valley pan?

that isn't going to call for a fuel grade hose. i'm pretty sure that that is one of the throttle body coolant passages that are affected by the thermostat on your air filter box. any coolant rated hose will work, but in a pinch, the fuel stuff will do.

If you look at the link he posted to realoem, that looks like the charcoal canister. Fuel hose will work with coolant as well.

Thank you all for the responses so far.

I will try generic hose since I guess it's the only option. The ID is ~12 mm, and OD ~20 mm. (I still cannot believe that BMW has a freakin part number for every nut and clamp for the whole engine...but this hose is absent from realOEM AND the BMW parts computer. BTW, the BMW parts computer diagrams I saw at the dealer today are EXACTLY like the realOEM pics, and they don't have the part # either). My concern is the bend; the hose I sawed (hacksaw) off was hard as a ROCK with no bend (kinking) at all.

The job has been difficult for me since my only prior 'repair' has been to replace the hood shocks. I'm cleaning the intake manifold, ICV, TB, replacing intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, PVC, stripped the valve covers, painted them, doing plugs, replacing the injectors, and replacing misc hoses. I hope write up some stuff w/pics in the spirit of giving back, and all that. I'm not sure I want to go as far as the valley pan, though I can see coolant seeping out down there during the time the car is in the garage. Difficult, time-consuming, but quite satisfying.

I traced the hose in question to eventually hook up to this thing (diagram from realOEM), however the hose I need isn't in the diagram. Off to Autozone or Pep Boys tomorrow I guess.

Thanks again. BTW, the motivation for this repair is a long-time vac leak (CEL in cold weather) finally resulting in what I think was a limp mode incident. Hope it was just a BAD vac leak, but I guess I'll find out in a couple weeks when it's all back together.
