Door latch cable

The other day, I was opening my door (from the inside) and the door latch cable snapped. I bought the replacement cable but I can't get this cable out.

I think pushing, (towards the latch), to get the cable out but no luck. Even with pliers.

Any tips to getting this out without pulling the door latch out.
