Hey everyone,

My dad's E34 Touring is just beginning to suffer from the infamous freeway shimmy.

Thrust arms (with 750 bushings) were replaced a couple years ago (correctly installed with car on ground); control arms were replaced last month (installed correctly). Everything is of the Lemforder brand.

I jacked up the car to further inspect. Of all the steering system's ball joints, the passenger side tie rod is the only one with the slightest bit of play; both tie rods and center drag link will be replaced accordingly.

Concerning the thrust arm: Visibly, the thrust arms' bushings looked intact with no rips or tears, but I used a prybar to check if the thrust arm bushing had any flex, and it did, just like the guy displays in the video below (jump to around the 3:20 mark)

So even if my thrust arm bushing has no tears, but flexes like in the video, is it considered done?

bushing due to its design, the utube thing isn't even close to accurate...also he didn't tighten the thrust arm under load so he's going to kill the new bushing more rapidly

Mine were shot but not torn. Before I did them, the car would wander about. Contrary to the video, you can replace them by the road using a trolley jack:D Grab tyre at 12 and 6 o'clock and pull in/out if you want to double-check for movement

Kind of fun watching this. Made me really want a rack. Perhaps a set of tall +-3 foot high "super ramps" I could drive the entire car up on. Sort of like a fixed scissor lift. Anyone make something like that.

Check out the 'Sprinter' :

Works on single phase so you can plug it in at home. Dont know about 110v though. They are on small wheels so I guess the free 'mobility kit' is the T bar with a hook that the guy in the pic is using to drag it. Like the programmes though I doubt I'd buy a car off Mike Brewer:D
