89 535i Transmissions Type

I've read that there are 2 types of Transmissions for an 89 535i 4HP22-EF and 4HP22-GE but when I enter the serial# 2093910 at realoem.com it gives me the generic 4HP22 and says the car was built in 11/88. The shifter has the A M switch not the A S M switch. I also read that the early model had the A S M switch but this would seam to contradic when it was built...

Does this really matter since realoem never mentioned the last 2 letters? I don't want my friend to purchase the wrong Tranny

I have no idea what you are telling me means... What is Rmfd and after the build date I see a bunch of numbers and a euro sign... I don't know whats being said about the gearbox stuff either, its not clear.

Can I easily see the plate on the tranny if I crawl under it?

Is the torque converter inside the transmission cause I know that was going out for a long time.

Since I didn't get a clear cut answer, I'm guessing you don't know from the serial # and gearbox info I gave and I"ll have to look at the plate on the trannny

Rmfd = remanufactured
Yes, you can see the number plate on the left side above the oil pan of the transmission.
Note: left/right hand side of car is from the driver's seat looking forward.

and there is all mentioned what you need. But to be 100% sure, check it, also the is on the manufacturer plate the serial number.

the torque converter is in the bell housing. The bell housing is part of the transmission and between the tranny itself and the engine.

But now I am confused???? Can you describe that a bit more in detail

Rfmd means remanufactured. At the top of the table you will see the key - above euro sign it says price and the long numbers are the BMW part numbers. The TC is inside the bell housing and is marked with a 2 in the diagram. Always best to check the plate for details - torch and mirror should make life easier. HTH
