Erich, forget Dr. Vanos, Rajaie and Loach have come up with a better cheaper solution on their own and sell it on their website along with complete instructions here (http://www.beisansystems.com/)
Or the actual website here http://www.beisansystems.com/

I have done the drvanos solution with the spring upgrade and it works very well. I'm not sure that replacing just the seals is going to get rid of the VANOS rattle - it isn't mentioned in their description of a failing VANOS. Mine worked fine, but made the engine sound like a diesel at idle and would make the metallic buzzing/grinding sound (marbles in a can) sound when revved.
I have a video of the "before" here. If you want an after, I can make one and post it for you.

Isn't their solution more of a preventative one? From reading their site, I had concluded that the VANOS fails mechanically shortly after the seals fail. They're selling a kit that would extend the longevity of a working VANOS unit. So, in most cases, replacing the rings and seals wouldn't restore the functionality of the whole VANOS unit once it has begun rattling. Or am I wrong?
