are there any writeups around to fix a air con compressor?

I think the bearings are gone in my unit, it was making aloud noise a few years ago and the cold air stopped working so I removed the a/c belt a few years ago also but just in the last few days ago I removed the compressor from my car. I found one one writeup on how to fix it but the author from that writeup says what he did didn't work in the end.

Kriss, I think replacing the unit with a known working unit would be a better choice. Reason being yours leaked which is most likely seals but you kept it inoperative for a couple years which most likely allowed environmental factors to oxidize and maybe rust the internal parts. Even with a new used unit it should be sealed, the entire system vacuumed and a new drier put in place before you try to recharge the unit.

However if it was an old Dodge or Oldsmobile the like I would say add sealer and gas and go on with it. ;)

Yeah, like Jeff suggested, replace the compressor and drier.

I'd recharge/convert the system with r134 and some UV dye to spot any leaks.

You / I assumed that there was no refridgerent left but when I went to undo the nut all the gas escaped so there was still some left, so maybe it wasnt the seals jeff. but yeah i agree with you i need a new unit now.

Yeah, but R134 is so much cheaper to fill and fix an old leaky system with.

Plus, Greenpeace agreed to stop showing up at my garage anymore if I converted to R134.

okay so I need a new drier, compressor and should replace the old o-rings with new ones, I already know I lost one that comes off the line connected to the compressor.
