Well my heater core pipe came this week so I went back in there again today.

The good news, my fix held :D

Also in the parts grab-bag was a square nut for the pipe.
Works much much better than the nut that was on there. The part# for this was difficult to find for some reason.

At this point (http://www.bimmernut.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6759&stc=1&d=1241911116)my camera batteries died, I am sorry RJ. I didn't see anything useful for you though, I'm still not sure how the heater core comes out, sorry man. Mine looks new aside from a couple of dents - I'm starting to figure out the previous owner and I'm guessing he changed the core but not the pipe. (and lost the square nut... and dented the new heater core...) The new pipe is slightly different, there is no join in the middle of the return pipe, it's a single piece - wonder who the genius was...

No leaks, camera powered up again - started putting the dash back together... one thing about reinstalling the pipe is you have to be careful when tightening as it is easy to squish the o-rings outside of the pipe.

p/o pisses me off... again... it's more busted than it looks, the hazard plug is the same, goodness me...

I went through a huge pile of q-tips cleaning out the switches, good thing I bought a big box of them, there's plenty of filth left. Console back on... whoops, what did I forget now? Oh well, there's still tomorrow, and the hazard switch looks nice.

so the duct wasn't too difficult to slide in there without ripping everything apart. no wonder the wires fit so good the first time :D.

Yeah, I'm getting ready to do this. Have the pipes, core and o-rings sitting on my bench. What's this square bolt thingy? Do I need to order this?

No, you probably have one unless it got lost.

In this photo where there is a hex nut there is supposed to be a square nut.

If you don't use the square nut and tighten the bolt like a moron you will do this to your pipe...

I hope I got it right this time, I don't want to go back there for a while.

Ya I bet :D - I found it really worthwhile to clean all the switches and edges while I was there - much nicer now to push buttons that aren't coated in orange crush.
