So I was rear ended on 06/10/2009 by a motorcycle. He slid under me an FUBAR my exhaust system. I need an OEM catalytic converter that can be used in California (OBD II). It is for the black 1993 525i.

Does anyone have the correct part number. Real OEM comes up with the 49 state version.

Does anyone have a good source? I'll check w/ BMA tommorrow.

A '93 525 is OBD I, not OBD II. OBD II wasn't around until '96.

Is it not part # 18301728417?

I don't see anything about it being a 49 state version. If that's it, Tischer BMW (www.getbmwparts.com) has it for $1,446.12. And if it's OEM that you need, you probably won't do any better than that.

If a D.E.C. cat will do, I see Pelican has them for $764. I don't really know much about the D.E.C. versions and if they work as well as the OE cats do.

From what I've heard the law has changed in California (01/2009)

Ouch. Did he lose more than his leg, an arm and half his torso taking out your exhaust?

Hint: I last collected one from a wrecker for $100 odd, it looked good and was okay. Not hard to fit either once the car was raised up properly.

BMA carries the D.E.C. catalytic converters. Yves says they are very heavy duty now. That's probably the way I'm going to go, unless I find some other source for the factory part.

I think his handlbars did the dmamge to the exhaust.

Long Beach BMW gave me the same P/N.

?

OBD I or OBD II is hardware related. Different sensors, different connectors, different computers, etc. Has nothing to do with any laws. OBD=On-Board Diagnostics

Only thing the law has to do with the OBD systems is mandating that OBD II be installed in all cars from '96 on.

Don't any of the wreckers in Rancho whatever have one? OE is going to be big dough, if available at all.
How did the cyclist fare? I have this image of a biker pinned under a hot cat., ouch.

If u want to go to universal replacement check out performancepeddler.com, offer them a price do not pay their sale/regular price anyways I've been offered $271.84 for (2) Magnaflow 46105 CA OBD II cat converter for my E39, that's after I ordered from HOTTEXHAUST.COM $338.11, I have to ask HOTTEX for their price guaranty/ adjustment or I'll cancel my order. Before that a local shop will install $300 for each cat plus tax. Another shop offered to install 2 cats for $80. I hve to save $$$$ times going too tough nowadays.
