When I press the clutch pedal even slightly I'm getting a loud mechanical whirling sound. Almost like something is without lubricant.
Brake fluid level is fine, and there are no problems with shifting or manual trans "at this point".
Any ideas what the problem is and how hard the fix would be?

Throwout bearing.
Might as well do a clutch kit if that turns out to be the case.

What he said!
You wouldn't be guilty of 'resting' your foot on the old clutch pedal, now would you? ;)

Is that what causes it?!? I prefer to think of it as 'being ready to clutch' rather than 'resting'.
