My 525i with 210 K is running nicely thank you, but its my '91 318is that needs some help. I want to replace the timing chain rails and gaskets , but my Bentley manual has no procedure info for the M42 engine. Does anyone have any information on what has to be removed i.e. waterpump, pulley's etc.
Many thanks.

You may have to resort to a Haynes manual. The engine specs are covered in the e36 manual, you won't find anything on the M42 looking under E30 manuals. Replacing the chain will require the use of cam lock tools to lock the camshaft in place with the #1 cylinder on TDC. Although there is a workaround if you fabricate a template and double and triple check your work. You run a great risk of bending all your valves if it isn't right.
