The other day my son and I noticed that his 735i needed the belts replaced. I found this video to show him how it was done. Should have seen the look on his face. I was able to keep a straight face for a few minutes, but I could see the relief on his face when he found out this is not the way you change a belt.

Haha! That's awesome. Good luck screwing the fan clutch back on with the engine running.

Did you change the pulley? Rattling pulley will wear out the water pump bearing faster too.

Common guys the engine shown is the old trusty VW beetle ,air cololed 4 cylinder engine and there is no fan clutch on those , and that procedure is possible. Thats a good video, though.

That's awesome! I rented a VW Bug in Mexico several years back during my vacation. I can see why some people like these cars for its simplicity but what a junk. I hit a small puddle and the engine died. I needed to wait half hour for the engine bay to dry out before it started again. And it was 2001 model! Yeah, they still made those till early 2000 in Mexico.

I owned one and had a rubber boot to cover the distributor cap. You right it was a very simple engine. Could change out a clutch in about 2 hours.

Tough old cars though. Mate demolished about 8 feet of dry stone wall with the back end on Xmas Eve 'some' years ago. Exhaust and suspension stuffed and the wheel was shaped like a heart. But it still drove home! (The spare was flat but it still drove)
Lessons learned:
1. Dont drift a Beetle. If you over-correct and it may bite you in the arse
2. Dont be a passenger in a car going backwards at 40mph
3. As 2. but dont pick a driver who sits transfixed and fails to respond to ever more urgent calls of 'BRAKE! BRAKE!!! B R A K E !!!!!'
4. Grow up if you want to live to open your Xmas presents :D
