My car doesn't have a switch to turn on/off the ASC.
Is it just a matter of fitting the OEM BMW switch - assuming there is a loom plug for it hanging there waiting.
Or is there more to it than that?

Step one - make sure your car is equipped with ASC.

think about it...would BMW install NOS and not give you a switch to use it?

granted I would never want NOS but you get the idea ;):D

I guess it was a silly question after all.
I assumed that all BM's had it, and that maybe the switch was deleted in certain countries where vehicle regulations or marketing concerns may have dictated it not to be able to be turned off.

How can I check if I do have it? Or is it absolutely certain that if there's no switch then I don't?

Didn't ASC for E34 came out on 1994 and newer models? As mentioned above, no button then no ASC.

There's a lot of stuff that needs to be in the car for ASC+T. First off the switch. The secondary throttle body. The ASC DME in the main DME box. Different air intake boot. The braking system is different. More wiring. I'm sure there's more sensors. Etc., Etc.

Waaay too much **** to toss in all E34's and just leave out a switch that costs them a couple of bucks.

And as Rick said I do think it was on 94+ year cars.

The only function I can recall being built into E34's but them leaving a switch out to control it is the EDC setting switch. The non-Nurburgring package Euro M5's that had an EDC suspension system weren't equipped with an EDC settings switch. Slap in the EDC selection switch and then you can choose between comfort/adaptive & sport setting for the suspension. Non switch equipped cars only had the comfort/adaptive mode available as there was no way to force the sport mode like on the switch equipped cars. But that's the ONLY function I've ever heard of that was there but didn't have the switch to control it installed.

"94 was the first year AST was offered for U.S. cars. If you don't have the switch, you don't have the option. It became standard on U.S. BMWs in 1997 model year and even then some models (Z3) didn't get it until later in the year. That's my memory of it.
