I am about to get back into E34 ownership! I am going to buy a '91 535i, hell rot, almost identical (1 year newer) than the 535i I sold about 18 months ago.
It is a manual transmission, and I am thinking about towing it home, about 135miles. Can it be towed on a dolly? Would I simply put it in neutral?
Thanks in advance.

See no reason towing it that distance in neutral as its a manual. You wouldnt get far in the UK though - you can only use a dolly to recover a vehicle, not transport it. And an E34 is well above the 750kg limit for an unbraked trailer. Your regs are probably different but it may be worth a thought

I'd imagine you could, but personally I would remove the half-shafts for towing even though it is a manual trans, I wouldn't want to risk not getting oil to some part of the gearbox. I towed my auto 535 home with a dolly with the half-shafts removed, no problems...

as mentioned unbolt the half shafts or differential before the move, 5 miles is okay but 135? Wouldn't let it happen to my car.
EDIT: If your towing with the rear wheels on the dolly it is better, almost okay but much safer for the drivetrain.
