I'm putting an automatic engine in a manual trans car. The engine has 115,000 miles on it and ran good. Since it's going to be out I going to replace the water pump, intake gaskets and any other gaskets and vacuum system parts as I can before it goes in. While it's out is there anything else I should be looking for on the engine or the engine bay. I don't want to mess this up by missing something I could have taken care of.

all hoses, belts thermostat etc. Done once and good for another hundy miles. Plugs wires, cap/rotor and related are worth looking at while out too.

Sump gasket if its weeping? Piece of cake with the engine out. Not so with it in situ
Don't forget a pilot bearing for the manual trans' input shaft.
Any hydraulic lines that are a bitch to get at?

Front and rear main seals. Loctite the flywheel bolts or your rear main seal replacement will be for naught.

If your windshield wipers acted like they were hitting the hood, you can fix this easily with no engine in the way.

This is a *#@%ing GREAT idea and should be standard procedure on every old E34 with an engine out.
