I'm changing the fuel filter on my E36 M50. a bloody pita.
The car has always been serviced by BMW and this hose clamp needs a K shaped screwdriver!

I got some fuel hose clips from the dealer. The heads that you tighten were designed to break when they reached correct torque. The face that was left did look a bit like a letter K. Only way I found to undo them was use mole grips.

I don't know what I'd do without my moley's... They've got me out of some sticky situations and have removed many a stubborn hoseclamp with relative ease! :)

cheers whisky! :) now i understand. well I will think about a new strategy. I don't undertsand the rationale for putting the fuel filter there on the M50. it must get hot there and I heard that's no good for the fuel.
Besides I have heard it may takes 2.5 hours for a BMW mechanics to do the fuel filter on those configurations.

Wow 2.5 hours?! The captain and I done it in less than half that time on his m50! I might give BMW a ring and ask for a job :p
It is pretty awkward but where there's a will there's a way :D
Don't they still have a hex screw?

Thats not where the filter is on my 91 525. Is that the M50 out of the e36? I can understand the frustration in trying to replace it.

I cut the hose... even after removing the MAF there was no room to torque away the top hose from the filter. next time no hassels, I will cut it straight away, have a replacement (only a few inches long) and be done with it.
