I went to school with Fittipaldi, he is an honest dude albeit quite a burnout. Have said pictures of wheels?

Yes, I think I can advise against those...

- bling factor high
- plenty messed around with since new (guessing)
- will handle worse than stock... (for sure)
- Difficult to clean, even with a toothbrush...
- (stopping now)

Wrong size tire and not pretty at all.

BMW4LIFE

will the tires work?

They are too tall and not wide enough...correct?

p.s. just got a call and apparently they are three piece aluminum...but I thought aluminum doesn't rust??!?! I could be wrong

They do look to have some rust from the bolts. Have him do without the tires, I suggest, or sell them yourself and perhaps recuperate a bit on the investment. But you'd definitely have to get different rubber (235/45/17 - I think you know that already). I am of the opinion that it is safest to buy good and brand new tires of the right size.

Keep in mind you have to refinish them, and I'm not sure how that's done for this type of finish, especially if there's curb rash, so I'm no help. Unbolt the centers and paint 'em, then torque them back in... I think you have to torque them in. You would have to verify this, but eventually you might even replace the centers if you like.

All that being said, you get what you pay for, and you may end up coughing up as much cash as you would for prime looking style 5's with good (used) tires, with all you'd have to invest to make 'em look good and giving them good tires. You could save on work if you DIY, and let them look the way they are until you get the cash.

That's a nice e34 in the pic. Lowered front and back, nice shiny black... If that's what you like, then I say go for it. You only live once.

On the whole, I think you should pass this one.

those look bad

I have a feeling that doesn't mean BAD ASS!!! =(

BMWDriver - Thanks for the advice..now I am thinking twice about the wheels...hmmm....it seems like every time I find a wheel there seems to be a problem with them...then again what did I expect with a 500 budget :(

ahhhh

would they be worth $300? for some reason I think that they look really good on the pic (link provided)

but then again I could be shopping on passion and not wisdom

Finish is bad, wheels get sknaky real fast unless the finish is good. If the finshs is bad, you have to ask why... and then, you have to ask sensible things like 'how badly bent' or cracked or even, 'how badly repaired' are they... Also, those are nowhere near as good as a forged rim.

You drive a BMW for a reason. For me, that reason doesn't allow for dodgy rims. I'd rather they be functional (light, strong, safe & ride smooth) first. Once you have those as a threshold, anything good costs you.

so f): the cheapest way to do it right is to buy nice rims w/ nice rubber. i.e. $600 worth of tyres as well as $600 rims seldom sells for $1200... LOL!

This is a nice wheel on that car... I think that is a three pieces ATP wheel. Nothing like the Fittipaldi that you saw... and will never look like that.

$500 huh? I'll see if I can find anything for you.

a) 17"

c) 500 shipped

but I see what your saying...

do you guys think that the wheels are cast? wouldn't they be forged if they are a famous brazilian racers wheels meant for BMWs?

Tiger
04-13-2010, 02:38 PM
B? what are you talking about... most of those wheels you like is 'next' generation.

c? They are in CA! Most of em.

A? First 4 is 17"

Anyway, good luck finding what you want.

b) let me clarify...I am not a big fan of seeing e60 wheels or so on a e34 car...I really like the 1st and 3rd as wheels but I looked up pics of google and they dont look "right"

c) I calculate gas into the mix too (not cheap...just logical)

a) =)

and tiger thanks for the time you put in to find those wheels...I really do appreciate it...

Hm. Methinks you'll have to lurk into the Craigslists of this world and try to find someone who does not know the value of the wheels they have.
