Sync'ing the locks trick

Son has been having problems syncing his door locks. The passenger side would not lock. I know the manual says to deadbolt lock from the passenger side and open from the drivers side but the passenger knob would not go down. I finally opened the passenger door and while turning the lock with the key I gently pressed down and on the knob. The knob dropped about a quarter of an inch and then locked. I unlocked the passenger door with the key and closed the door. I then deadbolt locked all of the doors from the passenger side and unlocked them from the drivers side. Now every lock is sync'd Anyone else ever have this problem?
