View Full Version : Torque settings for front crossmember and subframe bushes needed

Guys, does anyone know the torque settings for the following:
1. The large bolt that attaches the cross-member to the chassis, this is the one the thrust arms bolt into, no 13 on this diagram:

2. The 22mm nut that goes through the rear sub frame bushes.
3. The two 13mm nuts that hold the subframe bush mounting plate to the chassis?
I'm in the middle of these jobs but can't find these values in the Bently manual, I know shogun posted a link with all torque settings in but I can't find that either!
I'll share my experiences once the job is complete, thanks.

No 13 in the image is a Hexagon screw with flange M14X1,5X110, the PDF shows:
M14x1.5 thread M14x1.5 8.8 143 Nm (ft. lbs.)
M14x1.5 10.9 200 Nm (ft. lbs.)
M14x1.5 12.9 240 Nm (ft. lbs.)
none are exact matches.
The 22mm nut holding the subframe bush in place is a Collar nut M14X1,5 (taken from realoem), the pdf is as above for this so again no exact matches.
I don't know what the thread value is on either of these bolts or what any of these figures mean, any ideas on how to check or anyone have any experiences they can share? In the mean time I will use my judgement based on the figures above. Thanks for the reply.
The M14 x 1.5 is the bolt diameter and thread pitch, 110 is it's length which doesn't matter.
The three tightening specs are given depending on the bolt's property class; 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9 which will be marked on the bolt head. All of which interestingly exceed the maximum per DIN 267 according to the chart in the Bentley manual which states 130nm, 180nm, 220nm respectively.
Not sure if you Brits measure such things as nm or lb/ft, if the latter multiply the above numbers by .73756
Me, in the absence of a strong impact gun put a long bar on it, pull like hell and call it good. NFW you'll overtighten that bolt by hand.

The bolt grade is stampled on the bolt head. IIRC it is grade 10.9.

Thanks guys, it says 10.9 on the bolt head for the subframe bushes which means 200nm, sounds like a lot but I'll give it a go.
The smaller bolts for the subframe bush plate says 8.8 and its an m8 so going by the pdf this is 24 or 26 nm, The front cross member bolt is an m14 1.5 which says 8.8 so this is 143 nm.
Thanks guys for your help, been stuck under the car for too long, never thought of looking on the head of the bolt :)
