Every once in a while I get an 'oil level sensor' error. Not such a big deal, but the gong is annoying. So the other day I went and had a look....
There is only one wire running to the sensor! In the schematics it is supposed to have 3 wires, one of them a ground, but there is only one wire running to the sensor.

I traced this wire (looked green and yellow to me but maybe it is the blue and yellow one in the schematic) and it goes around the front of the engine block (with the cps) and it looks a little damaged up around there but I cannot find any trace of the other 2 wires... cannot find X1525 anywhere (it's supposed to be around the alternator) and the wire that is there runs directly into the conduit that sits to the left (driver) side of the motor.
How much current is going through these wires? A new sensor costs $200 at PP - even if I buy one (doubtful) I have to find those wires - so I could bypass it (I check the oil anyway) but now I'm not entirely sure what to do, maybe somebody 'bypassed' it already. I want to investigate further... but what can I test or look for?
Thanks for any advice!

on my 750 it is 3 pin plug. And that plug is not available from BMW, only the oil level sensor complete.
But I found the correct plug from Bosch.
German description
Kupplungsstecker 3polig. =Boschnr.1 928 402 448
In 2008 someone from Germany posted for me all the numbers of various plugs for this and I bought them all from Germany, see post # 8

I post 11 I confirm what fits
here a pic from an M30 plug, is same like M70 on my one

I had the same problem on my 525.
Ended up cutting up an old TPS that had the same three pin configuration and soldering it to the wires.

yed, the same connector is used on different places on the car, for example next to the B+ pole where the wires from oil level sensor come up and from alternator.

some p/n info I just found a bit late, but maybe someone needs them in future:
just searched a bit and found my old thread from 2008 on the German forum where they helped me to find the parts numbers for these and others. For Oil level sensor
Kupplungsstecker 3polig. =Boschnr.1 928 402 448
and more copied, translate it:
Kupplungsstecker 3polig. = Boschnr. 1 928 402 448
others
Kupplungsstecker 2 polig = Boschnr.1 928 402 452
Und die Gegenstuecke:
2-polig = 50290236 (Herth+Buss)
3-Polig = 50290238 (Herth+Buss)
Und hier die Nummern für die Tuellen(Gummiteile am Kabeleingang):
2- polig gerade 50281050 (Herth+Buss)
2- polig abgewinkelt 50281051 (Herth+Buss)
3- polig gerade 50821052 (Herth+Buss)

IIRC the OP's photo is of the oil pressure sensor on an M20, not the oil level sender which lives in the sump.

Take the sensor out the next time you change the oil and rinse it out with mineral spirits (gasoline) to clean the crud out. Once it moves again your good.

... Too right it was. :-p
Jeff's right too- clean the thing up, they just get clogged by deposits on some engines.
