This sucker should scream, dual quad core (8 logical CPUs) with 8 gig memory. Its like tons bigger than the 16 bit architecture mainframe, with one CPU and I can't remember how little memory, I started out on as a Computer Operator. It ran MVS with CICS, and IMS as the DB. No TCP/IP at that time, IBM proprietary VTAM. Anyone remember this stuff. We ran big business on these green screen systems, and they ran quite well. Skinny applications without all the fat of today, screaming hundreds of transactions per second, writing their logs to spinning tapes.
If anyone encounters problems with emails ending up in spam or anything else with this new server, please let me know.

i used to work with a mainframe system that could only output via huge line printers - no video output available. It used the CANDE / Work Flow Language (WFL).

Still running IMS on our main db server. We are just starting the very very slow migration to a modern system now.
Nice work Ed, keep it up.
Wow!! Dating yourself there, Ed.
Did the same about the same 'era'. Hard drives were as big as a stack of tires.
My cellphone has more computing power than the old IBM 360/370s.

IBM 3350 — Disk drive (317.5MB - 1976)
IBM 3800 — First laser printer introduced by IBM; 1976-1990
IBM 3033 — System/370 multiprocessor complex; high range; 1977
Just a little of what I remember, found on wikipedia, I know I even worked on earlier stuff. The 3033 system 370 stuff was the shiny new stuff for us at that time!
I was a computer operator that grew into an MVS systems programmer. Worked on them through y2k, then did some Unix/Oracle/SAP stuff for a while.

Intel,
and today I had a search index rebuild running all day long, pretty intensive. It'll be even faster tomorrow.
