Heater only works on position 4

Hi I know this question gets asked alot and changing the resister is the usual fix. I changed the heater blower resister for a brand new one from dealer and still same problem.

What should I look at after the resister ?

Car is a 1995 525ix awd auto saloon, also just put in brand new cabin filter.

maybe the thumbwheel for speed control is broken. Clean that one, open it and measure.

possibly the "sword"?

You mean fan speed... then on your car... it is easy fix... fan resistor module needs to be replaced.

Some models have a sword and some have a resistor. Both of mine have the sword

Later models has resistors...

maybe the thumbwheel for speed control is broken. Clean that one, open it and measure.

Or the dial. Not every E34 had thumbwheels. Either way, it fixed my problem and I saw the same symptoms.
