Lifted my car up today and discovered my drivers side rear wheel has more play than a 8-year-olds birthday at Chuckie Cheeses! The passenger side rear wheel was very stiff on the other hand. Both front wheels had some play in them. When I rotated the front wheels by hand: they made intermittent metal grinding noise at the same points of wheel rotation. I did not take off the wheels, thus the brake calipers were obviously still there. But would brake noise be intermittent?
Clearly, I have at least 1 bad wheel bearing (the driver's side rear). But should I go ahead and buy the 2 front hubs (w/ wheel bearings) as well as wheel bearings for both rear wheels? The car has 193k miles on it at this point.
Also, if my front wheels have mostly lateral but a little vertical play, is that just the wheel bearings gone bad? Or do the tie-rod ends play a role with the lateral play?
