i can see it,he says its an extreme situation but in reality isnt it the same as two cars doing 60mph having a head on?I can tell you the car is remarably intact but literally about 1/3 the original size.Its completely compressed back to the B pillar

Thanks Paul. I'd have to agree that two cars colliding at 60 would be the same as hitting a wall at 120. If the car is only 1/3 of the original size that doesnt bode well for anybody in it :-(

the sterring wheel was hard against the back seat.There was no drivers compartment

If the car is only 1/3 of the original size that doesnt bode well for anybody in it :-(No it isn't (assuming the wall didn't move), at least not quite- as the deformation occurs in both cars so you should have half the overall deformation as we see in this video- and that might well be a chance of life , though probably without legs :(.

I wonder if this info is available for the E34? My partner just had a blow out in her Hyundai Coupe doing 60mph. Its very rare but when that happens you can be along for the ride. Fortunately she didnt hit anything but she was very badly shaken. I've suggested that apart from driving around town, she uses my car. I'd like to think this is a wise choice on safety grounds?

from my informal research(read what i have seen/heard) modern cars are safer than older cars...This is the premise on which this experiment was undertaken,ie that many modern smaller cars can do 120 mph

Why did they 'blow-out'? Often they get damaged structurally, but there are many dodgy tyre brands around too.

An e34 is a pretty safe car in most situations, dep. on airbag- its a big statistics wise and not all e34s have them. But a low speed prang in an e34 will never hurt you though.
