I have a '93 525iT and the rear glass won't open. How do I check to see if it's the switch, etc? Thanks.

T means for me check for broken wire loom from rear door to chassis

Try simple thing first... slam the door while you are holding the down button.

Yeah, do you mean the window in the rear door, or the window in the hatch? If hatch, likely it's a broken wire like Shogun says. Tiger's suggestion sometimes works for the side doors.
It's more likely a broken wire in the harness(s) along the hinge arms. The wires fray and eventually break or touch one another causing all sorts of issues from glass or door not opening to lighting faults.
The repair is well documented, search "trunk (or hatch) harness"

Thanks for the info. I checked all of the wires in both harnesses (have made numerous repairs here in the past) but still no response when pressing the rear hatch glass switch. What's the best way to check the switch and related parts? Also, is there a way to open the rear glass manually? Thanks.

It will probably be the wiring in the tailgate wiring harness at the hinges you can buy new ones and replace- repairing existing wires at this point needs to be done with extreme care. Shogun recently posted some links to the best repair pics around for doing this.
