yep, the spammers get more tricky. I am also a mod on several boards.
The easy ones are the spams generated by a computer system. The trickier ones are human beings which first post here and there some comments and then start spamming. Of course, before you find that out and nuke them, they already registered with a different name and appear again.

I manually approve members based on the answers they give to a couple BMW related questions I ask. Seems some are now answering the questions correctly and are slipping through. I'll take a closer look at their answers now that I see they are getting in. Maybe I'll ask a tougher E34 related question. We'll see.

we discussed that a lot among us mods on a German forum where I am also moderator.
The computer generated spammers are out, but the ones which are human beings are more difficult to find. Sometimes even later they edit posts and make their links. We are even discussing to limit edit times for a post to 45 minutes. Found that they edited a post even days later and made their spam links.
And before they do this, they already register with the next name because they know they existing will be banned as soon as we find their spam.

Maybe you add more mods to "patrol" the forum, they just need the usual mod rights to delete,alter, hide threads from public etc pp.
