My 94 530i with M60b30 only has 121k on the engine. The car has 211k.

Just curious as too how many miles these V8 DOHCs can handle.

My 94 540i just turned 101K. I expect it reach a minimum of 200K with regular oil and filter changes.

as usual, it all depends on how the car was used and maintained. Cold starts/short drives cause more wear than long highway trips at decent RPM and speed.
“Cold Start” can destroy bearing surfaces and lead to progressive failure. “Cold Start” failure is caused by lack of lubrication and running up to full RMP before the engine is warm.

My '94 530i has 112k miles. I remember seeing an M60 car with 280K miles for sale awhile back on one of the car sale sites.

as usual, it all depends on how the car was used and maintained. That's a given.

I'm trying to determine how many miles these engines can last ?

Everyone says, "BMW engines go forever!"..... What is Forever ?

Really... the V8 can last a real long time...just keep changing oil...at regular interval. Get the fuel injectors pulled and cleaned and the engine will be super smooth.

Be sure to change your engine mounts every 100K miles... almost everything is 100K miles interval... the pulleys for the belt... the belt... water pump, radiator, etc.. The rest of the car is the same story. Most likely the body will rust out before anything goes bad with proper maintenance.

Change all fluids regularly and it will last... oil, tranny oil, brake, power steering, cooling, etc. Fail to change on any of this... car will have lots of problems.

Mine has 160k miles and yes, the body is falling apart but the engine is butter smooth!

Oh... Timing chain is important to change at regular interval too... this is most forgotten because it is also expensive to do.

307,000 Km and climbing though it has regular maintenance and replacement of parts....Last wonderful event was a 70 MPH drive down I5 north of Seattle to catch a plane and "boom" the crank position sensor failed, the engine stopped right there at 70MPH and we "glided" to a stop along the side of the I5 in about the most inconvenient location halfway between towns....5 miles out of the nearest town. Thank goodness for AAA (BCAA) and cellular technology!

270,000 miles on the original nikasil. Rust is becoming a problem. Minnesota road salt has taken its toll. Otherwise, things are good.

almost a quarter million on my Nikasil, rust is and has taken a toll on this Georgia beauty. Went to change the tires from winter to summer and was tearing through the jack points. Nothing that a piece of wood couldn't solve but still. Think I will be shopping for another southern car since I will be moving that way anyways.

lol. I, not 5 minutes ago, did exactly the same thing. Had to bust out the saw to cut some chunks of wood. ;)
