I had to keep my speed down during an AM trip through Chicago due to construction and I was shocked at the fuel economy. This was driving at 62 miles per hour for almost 1.5 hours. There was no traffic, but the construction speed limit was 45, so I didn't want to go all too much over the limit. The car is an '04 530 manual tranny, and I have the 550's wide sports wheels on it. I really have enjoyed this car. All I did was put on M5 sways and it's been a good ride. Not the raw feel and high rpm muscle of my old E34 535im, but nice just as well.

And it's not set to Imperial gallons I guarantee.

do not show such stuff anymore, I get heartaches when I think about the fuel consumption of my 1989 E32 750iL :)

City 10 mpg (23.5 litres/100km) or less in heavy traffic with stop and go
Hwy 15 mpg (15.7 litres/100km) on a good day just floating on the highway with speed limit here 100 kmh
Combined 12 mpg (19.6 litres/100km)

hehe well the E32 750iL is likely the heaviest and most hungry BMW ever. Especially if it is the special armored version.

And I thought I was bad @ combined 11 liters/100km :)

Mine does 11.1 litres/100km in town with a fair bit of time in sports mode and I have managed 6.7 litres/100km highway at around 120kph

I get 23 in the 530 at the max no matter how I drive and at any speed and any octane. Bet they get a lot more in any other country.
