I currently own a 1994 530i (original owner) and a 2007 550i. No warranty on either.
Friend with a 2003 745i, very well maintained, just informed by dealer that his engine ports are clogged w/carbon and car won't pass emissions inspection. As I understand it, will cost him $6,000 to tear down top of engine and fix. Apparently, this affected catalytic converter...another $3,000. To make matters worse, he has a small leak from a $6 gasket but has to pull engine at cost of $1000-$1500.
Is this something I have to worry about with my 550i (or 530i)? Any preventive maintenance available?
Seems BMW makes repairs rather difficult and expensive!
