Bimmerworld apparently has them, as least for some models
Remanufactured Driveshaft -- BimmerWorld Online Store (http://store.bimmerworld.com/remanufactured-driveshaft-p64.aspx?0.5653983055140928)
Our driveshafts are precision rebuilds done the right way. The stock U-joints are drilled out and new, replaceable U-joints installed with a machined snap-ring groove (NOT WELDED!).
In found some pics from a E30 325is in the net

Maybe there are some spezialized companies out there which do that, here? BMW Driveline and Driveshafts OE Replacements Save Money! - Drivetrain.com (http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog/drivetrain/bmw_driveline_and_driveshafts_replacements.html)

I really don't see how welding beads to a fresh U-joint cap would be good at all. Perhaps 2 smaller spots on the non torque area better long as you douse the area with water to immediately cool it so the grease dont cook.
Edit: To add, it almost looks like he welded washers against the U-joint caps but is not in the thread that I can see. That might in fact work. Rustams job looks much nicer.
