I'm looking for some info/insight regarding the DWA module on a '95 540i. While trying to diagnose a no-start issue (which later turned out to be a dead starter), I negligently tried pulling the DWA module from it's resting point with the battery hooked up and nicked a wire which in turn sent a few sparks airborne. From that moment forward the hazards and high beams will flash any time the battery is hooked up unless the DWA is unhooked. My keyless entry, windows, and OBC no longer work either. I can only assume I toasted my DWA unless you guys have any insight as to what else it could possibly be. The thick red wire that you see taped here is the wire in question...

I've checked all fuses and pulled various other modules and seen no difference in the car's behavior. Assuming the DWA is the parts that's bad at this point, is there anyway to repair it? Also, I'm assuming this is a module that needs coding when replaced, is that a fair assumption?
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to get the car back on the road. Thanks.

Maybe the crash alarm module is damaged. Pull that one and see what happens, on my E32 750 it is located here, brown relay, engine bay left in fuse box http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_22a.htm

Would pulling that eliminate the flashing if the relay is bad? And would the relay also disable the keyless, windows and OBC?

So interesting...I pulled the relay and it did indeed stop the flashing. Does that imply the relay is now bad? Also the keyless, windows and OBC still does not work.

To me it implies that the relay is being sent the signal to operate. So it's really just masking a symptom of the overall problem. Not sure what that is at this point though.

You can jumper the relay, see here the picture http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1550277-Self-activating-flashers&highlight=crash+alarm

I'm going to assume jumper-ing it is going to verify whether the relay is bad or not. If it flashes with it jumped, it's not the relay, correct? And that still doesn't answer or solve the other issues I have. I cannot imagine a bad relay such as that would cause all these other problems.

I do not know your model that much, but in case of my car in my country spec the crash alarm module switches on in case of a crash the interior lights, unlocks the doors, switches on hazzard lights, switches off the fuel pumps and maybe also the ignition, that is for safety in case of a crash .
Yes, jumper-ing is going to verify whether the relay is bad or not.
I am not an electric expert, that is all I can say from my limited knowledge.
