I have a 1990 535i with 143K miles. My husband drove it for a week, and now there is a clunking noise from rear axle only when I turn left more than 45 degrees and at speed over 20mph. Ideas? I am waiting for snow to melt so I can work on it.
He thinks it is wheel bearing, I think it is suspension or differential.

Lift it up and have a look first. Maybe

beer cans http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Maintenance/Suspension/SubframeBushing.htm
or just some bent metal or a broken exhaust hanger.
