What are the possible causes for my compressor not turning on?

When I hit the AC button or the recirc button nothing happens. I'm not familiar with AC systems, can this be caused by a refrigerant leak? or is there a simple cause that I am overlooking? Thanks in advance

might be a fuse, or if there is a leak.....IIRC, the compressor will not engage if there is not adequate refridgerant pressure.

fuse, relay, switch, low freon, bad pressure switch on dryer, bad temp switch in the evap, bad climate control unit, bad climate control computer. i think that about covers it, about 1/2 of that hardly ever fails
