520i Noise

I have a 1988 520i that has a thumping sound from under the front end when driving over even small bumps.
I've replaced worn out control arms, thrust arms, and tie rod ends. Could it be the sway bar bushings or end rods?
Does anybody have any other ideas?
It doesn't seem to affect the steering or controlability, just makes an obnoxious thumping all the time.

sounds really like the top collar nut on the shocks are loose, get in there with a pipe wrench and torque it down with a long pipe and the sound should go away.
