how he hell do i find it? it's not labled and i need to ground it, otherwise it will give the "Trans Prog Error" for my new manual. i read on this site(http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_41.htm) that its pin number 5 that controls this, but he gives no information on how to find it. instead of destrying my CCM in the process of trying to find it myself, i'd figure i'd go to the BMW gurus. all help is greatly appreciated.
It is the same grey-brown wire that goes to pin #33 of the TCU connector which is where I grounded mine. Bentley shows that wire going from pin 33 of the TCU to pin 5 of the CCM. Since I was removing the TCU anyway, I didn't bother to locate pin 5 of the CCM & left it alone. Here's the location of pin 33 on the TCU connector:

You can verify the pin number location by the corresponding numbers molded into the TCU socket & count backwards from pin #35. I shaved down a spade connector to make it skinny enough to fit into the socket & crimped a wire to it & ran it to a sheet metal screw on the body behind the speaker & taped the spade lug into the pin 33 socket on the abandoned TCU connector. It works exactly as advertised for getting rid of the "trans program error" message. I have no idea what the effect would be for doing this if still running an auto trans. I grounded mine after doing the manual trans conversion.
I am only certain that this works for 735i's & 535i's. 525's have a 55 pin connector & you would have to dig out the schematic for them to verify which pin to ground. Same thing for 530's & 540's, I can't confirm them either.
