If so, does anyone have any pics? I'm thinking about this as possibility, anyone have any opinions?

I don't have a pic but believe they should bolt fine. Rare one-piece wheels they cam stock on E-28 M5's and possibly on E-30 M3's...though they may be a different offset. They are nice wheels...hubcentric, offset should be fine etc. I prefer the even more rare 3-piece 16" BBS cross-spokes with polished lip. As I recall Robert K had a set for a short while that he sold to install his 17" no. 5's. I could be wrong but believe the no.5 reference pertains to the density of weave on the BBS cross-spoke wheels. An example is I think that my E-34/E-32 stock 15" one-piece cross-spokes on my 735iL are technically no.5's as well. Someone correct me if they know otherwise.

I once had 3 of those wheels looking for a 4th. They are very similar to the 16" basketweaves from the 7 series. Only the center cap is a little different. They are also not that much different from the factory basketweaves in 15". I believe the offset is 20mm versus 18 or 22 for the 7 series wheel. I don't know if they are forged or not but could very well be since they are M5 wheels.
I think there is a set on ebay for sale right now. Personally I would rather have the 16" 5 series wheel with the larger spokes from an E39 than the E28 because they are much easier to clean. The E28 wheels are hubcentric to the E34 however.
The ride quality would be a bit softer with 16" versus 17" wheels also.

Mike...all BBS one-piece cross-spoke wheels are cast. Believe two and three piece variants may have a forged aluminum rim for further strength.

there may be no advantage to these wheels for me. i think the cleaning factor offsets the unique factor

But i have a feeling they are going to look strange on the E34
BTW, i have that 7 series article if you'd like, from R&T Exotic Cars:5 jul 1987

apples and oranges...better check the offset. It is possible...not a certainty that the E-30 M3 16" one-piece BBS cross-spokes won't bolt to either the E-28 or E-34 as they may have quite a bit more offset as most 3-series cars do from way back. In any event each are no.5's are there are many no.5 variations. You would need to check the ETK to see if the E-28 and E-30 16" BBS one-piece cross-spokes were indeed the same P/N/wheel to confirm if they will bolt to an E-34 if the wheels you are looking at came off an E-30. If they are the same P/N, then they will fit on an E-34 without spacers.

I just looked at the ETK. As I thought...the E-30 16" no.5 cross-spoke is not the same wheel as the E-28 M5 16" no. 5 cross-spoke...two different offsets. E-30 M3 version is 27ET...why it has less visible lip and E-28 M5 version is 20ET. The E-30 wheels you are looking at won't bolt without a spacer to the E-34.

I learned this along the way (from Bruno's site, I think) and want to test it out with those in the know:
While all E28/34/39 5 series (18" or smaller) and most E32/38 7 series wheels (again, 18" or smaller) fit on E34s, no 3 series wheels bolt directly to an E34.
True?
Almost true?
False?
Cheers,
Greg

generally true Greg...E-23, E-24, E-28, E-31, E-32, E-34, E-38 and E-39 wheels are pretty close in terms of offset...some variation but they generally fit with the right tires. E-39 offset is about right, but as many know on this board that run E-39 17" BBS no.5's, they are not hub-centric and require rings...the rest are hub-centric.
