Thank you for offering this service to the board...very nice jesture and will add a personal touch. How does one make the avatar effective after entering it onto your site? How about adding text as you have?...what is the procedure for this?...do you add the text/car description as part of the uploaded pic?...inserting the pic say into Powerpoint with some text below, then making a jpeg that way?
A brief procedure would help a lot.
Thanks again,
George

You go into your UserCP at the top, edit signature, and when you upload the image to my server, copy the dfsdfghdslg thing into the signature text window, and then type whatever car info you want. 200 characters is the maximum.

I like George's the best so far. Wide, not high, to add little to scrolling. Multi-pics for good detail and variation. Excellent job George. Now I'll have to make a good one too, instead of this test one I've got going on now.

Thanks for the compliment Ed! As usual, I agree with you on the size...if fact, feel free to set some sort of guideline as the board head man...I am certainly open. Avatars are nice but if too big will detract from not only the content of each post but be a bit overwhelming visually when opening each thread. Bimmer00d was quite generous with the host size.
Cheers and Thanks to all for this great forum!
P.S. I do hope there is some leniency on allowing Winfred's old avatar :-)

FYI for sizing purposes for those about to make their avatars:
Below Pic size =
1.8 in. high X 6.75 wide
23.7 KB
130 X 480 pixels @ 72 DPI= 62.4 KP

my jpg pics are usually several hundred KB? Do you take the pics at very low res? I've tried this before but the pics still come out over 100 KB.

Hector, you have to resize the images using a tool like Photoshop or Fireworks, or hundreds of other programs. You can also use .jpg compression when you do the resizing to further reduce how big the file is.
And George, yeah, I agree, but I don't think there's a way to restrict image height. I'd suggest we just harass the individuals like Scott E. with the tall pics! Funny Scott, you set this up, and you're the first to get harassed. ;)
Guideline, please don't make make your sig pics taller than 150 pixels!

I do have Imaging which is where I annodate pics. I can play with this a bit more to find size reduction features. It's funny cause as much as I like trying various software packages, I don't spend that much time looking for bells and whistles in each except for a handful of 'em.

Hector...I do a lot of jpeg manipulation on my job....send a number of Powerpoint/jpeg design proposals to Japan over night....so I employed a number of steps to get this result. The above Avatar is created with a 2MP Camera taken at max resolution. The pics are then reduced somewhat...to screen size using Irfanview...excellent freeware available on line...I highly recommend you download it.
Then I pulled the three pics into PowerPoint...a business presentation software that allows for nice showy graphics and manipulation of jpegs using its Insert function. I elected to insert the text via PowerPoint as well because it is so flexible to give the overall image I like. Then I do a screen print and recrop which really cuts the size down and save as a jpeg and then import it into Photoshop 7.0 which has the most strength as far as pixel/byte format/size goes.
The three individual jpegs were also adjusted for similar lighting prior to bringing them together using Photoshop. Photoshop's power is amazing.
Greetings. I haven't got a real good car pic, so this will have to do for now -- ha ha ha! Note the font color is ready when the right pic comes along. Thanks Sticky.

Marc...did you successfully load your pic onto Bimmer00d's site and then paste it into the signature field?...you can test it by a copy and paste into the normal field to see if the pic loads successfully as a first step.

Marc....smart has nothing to do with it. I learned most of my jpeg posting stuff from guys on this board some time ago. Every dam nuance has to be right for the thing to post. If it posts as a link...you need to try and copy and paste into the signature box again...with the right brackets and syntax...you'll get it to work. You have to use the [img] language or it won't post...no different than posting a pic on this forum..only you put it in the signature box which automatically is included in your post field.

I'll see what I can do to download Irfanview. The IS department here has all computers monopolized so I may not have the frigging "administrator privileges" or some BS like that to download. Yup, I'm familair with PowerPoint as well. Let me see if I can make any headway on the imaging software I mentioned before. If nada, then I resort to more civilized approaches.
