I've decided that the first mod on my 535im is going to be a chip, other than the free stereo swap from my other car. I've heard great things from everyone on this site about the E.A.T chip but i cant ignore the fact that JimC claims to put out another 43 horse. Is this just a false claim or is the EAT chip similar in numbers. Has anyone compared the two. I think i might be placing an order with MarkD soon

The JimC (and the Dinan chip- they are basically the same) will only bump horsepower from 208hp to 222hp, and torque from 222ft/lb to 237ft/lb. It only gives you an additional 43 horsepower and 36 ft/lb torque at 6250 rpm, effectively extending the powerband.
At 5500rpm the hp would drop below 200, and down to 157 at 6250rpm, while with the chip it doesn't go below 200hp from 4500rpm to 6250rpm.
At 5250, torque also drops, but much more suddenly. At 6250 it's at 132ft/lb, with the chip bringing it to 168.

I've driven all three + the Racing Dynamics chip. The EAT and the Jim C chips are clearly the best IMHO. Dinan is next and RD is at the bottom. The EAT chip seems to have better midrange than the Conforti by a small but noticable amount.
Based on performance and price, I'd give the nod to the EAT chip.
I think the EAT chip is even on sale now...

I don't have any chip (yet) but I've never seen someone recommend any other chip than the EAT.
I'll be putting in an EAT chip as soon as one is made available for my e34...

which is the Conforti tuned chip. This is what I would recommend for your 530 as I dont think the EAT chips were ever properly tuned for our cars, at least thats where I left it.

EAT Chip in my 535ia. I've never tried the others, but the difference in mine was amazing! Biggest difference in mid-range acceleration.
Basically, a chip in any of these OBD I cars will improve performance, period. I doubt you will be able to tell the difference between an EAT and a Jim C. I say, get the cheapest one and use it!
Btw, isn't Mark D'Sylva having a special on the EAT chip? If so, get one, you'll like it!
