View Full Version : Is this safe to use to increase fuel efficiency? See link
Have heard good things about Amsoil in the past and have used in my truck before. I have a warehouse not far from here and would like your opinions about running this oil at the next change...

Amsoil is alot of money... You need 8 quarts to do your car... which will probably run you $70. Majority of us just use Mobil 1... 10W30 or 0W40 preferred. As for increase in fuel mileage, I don't notice any increase in fuel mileage.. however I do a much better acceleration performance... the engine is much more livelier.
Amsoil runs about $6 a quart, making it approx $10 more than Mobil 1 per change. So $30 a year maybe worth it if I can get an answer that running 5W-20 is ok in our e34s, mine's a 540 in particular.

Ross, I use Amsoil in my TDI from time to time (that and Mobil Delvac 1) but I would have questions about the hot-temp weight of 20. Cold temp is OK...as Tiger noted, 10W30 (and more rare 0W40 which I run year-round) Mobil 1 are the favourites. For my own taste, 20 seems a bit low, especially for summer driving.

dont go 20 wt, thats piss thin. youd be better off going dino oil 20w 50 than 0w 20 anything. Just my oppinion. As for Amsoil I have nothing to say negetive, as long as you follow your basic weights (not 20wt). Use common sence mann
as for mileage increase average is about 2-3 mpg highway from a dino 20w 50 vs a mobil one 5w-30 or 0w-40.
change filter as required friend.
Thanks for the input. I already use 5-30 Mobil 1 but was curious if the 20 wt could add a mile or two per gallon. It may, but unless I had a confirmation from somewhere other than Amsoil (duh) I am not going to use it. Ill stick with what works...
