I know that there have been many threads about this particular problem, but still, I am hoping that my situation is unique enough that I won't get chastised! My car is overheating and I am seeing a white fog coming through the vents when I turn on the A/C. Normally this would indicate a blown heater core, but I am seeing no leaks. I am thinking to exchange the thermostat. Can you all think of anything else?

Make sure there is no air in the system. I had this problem until i took the time to properly bleed the system.

With the engine cool, open the bleeder valve on the radiatior. Fill the radiator until coolant flows out of the valve, then close it. Start the car with the heater on all the way and let the engine warm up to normal temp.

Open the valve again until no more bubbles escape. Have someong rev the engine at 2000 RPM for a few seconds until no bubbles are coming out. Close the bleeded valve.

That should do it.

fog is a bad heatercore or puddled up condensation not draining from the AC evaporator. Over heating as mentioned, probably an air pocket.

You guys rock. Makes sense because I leant it to someone who thought to help me by adding coolant. He opened it while hot and let fluid out everywhere and then added water only...IDIOT! BTW where's the bleeder valve? :)

The bleeder valve is located on the expansion tank, next to the radiator cap.

535 air bleed is on the thermostat housing. 10mm wrench I think.(NT)

My M30 has an 8mm head on that bleed screw. :) Sad that I've already used it enough to remember....and I'll be doing it again soon! (hopefully installing new HG this weekend)

Guys, my car exploded yesterday - coolant spewing everywhere! It seems to coming from under the thermostat housing and as such will be replacing the thermostat, gasket and hose....:(

the plastic ones warp and crack, the aluminum ones can distort if overheated.
